*** UPDATE: THE SHOWS WILL GO ON THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 15 ***

Thank God.

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/111897.html

I'm relieved that I'm going to have my last 8 shows intact and without a threat of a lockout.  However, that's no guarantee that a lockout or a strike won't happen at all, and yes, I'm still worried even though I won't be in the show anymore.

I'm hoping that reasonable heads will rule the day, and a fair contract agreed upon very soon.

Hello Manang. Salamat naman that your last shows won't get interrupted and sana wala ng mangyari.

I'm glad to hear the show will go on.

I've got a ticket for the Saturday matinee... I would have loved to be there for your final performance (your final performance in FDS is one of my favorite theatregoing memories), but that wasn't compatible with getting back to Virginia. So I saw almost your first performance as Fantine, and I'll see almost your last.

Speaking of the end of FDS, as you of course and probably many of your blog readers recall, there was a strike just before that one. This isn't enough to call a pattern yet, but we'll have to see what happens at the end of your next Broadway run.

Any idea when that will be, or in what show?

Hi there...

I think some of the info below isn't right... I know that my Hawaii sked, for example, is only for the first week of March. No visits to the islands in April.

Good to know that what you feared did not happen...God is good indeed.

Hi Lea-- no scheduled pre-cinderella concert here in manila? i thought you'll be having one in january 08 :(

anyhow, i'd like to share a website i chanced upon-- it's actually a blog site and the owner posted here in its totality the "movie in my mind" number of Lea and Isay circa 1989 at the West End. Bravo lea! here it goes-- http://gibbscadiz.blogspot.com/2007/09/first-1st-anniversary-treat.html

That one was from Miss Saigon Manila production in 2000. :)

How much longer will Les Miz run? It seems like the numbers are down :( My wife and I saw you on our honeymoon in April...definitely a highlight. I know it was supposed to be a limited run, but it seems like they will need a trick to keep it going....maybe Colm returning for a run?!?

whats happening in Broadway? huh. get out of there Lea. U dont deserve this kind of lockout thing.

sugar dizon said...

Read all Lea's post and links regarding Broadway blackout before you get totally blacked-out from "a little learning is a dangerous thing" syndrome.

Alexander Cohen said...

Thanks for the schedule, FHC and Badabing. Sadly, I won't be able to make it to any of those. With luck, another time.

By the way, Bryangar, Lea's successor as Fantine, like Lea, has been in Les Mis before and sung the voice of a Disney princess. In Judy Kuhn's case, the previous Les Mis role was Cosette (hence the headline, I think it was Playbill.com's, "I Am My Own Mother"), and the Disney princess was Pocahontas. Kuhn, I'm sure, has a fan base of her own to bring with her.

Hi Lea,

Are the concerts in Hong Kong for real? If they are, i will fly there to watch you. By the way, where can i buy the tix for that just in case?

Thanks for the correction. Bing found a better source of your schedule. Great that you're doing all those shows!!

This seems to be the best place to comment on your performance, so let me amplify, clarify, slightly correct, and add to what I told you in person after the matinee:

First--YOU WERE GREAT. Even against your usual standards, this was an excellent performance. I saw you as Fantine twice: once on your first official day, and once today. The first time, I sat watching and listening and thinking about all the layers of emotion you were putting into the character, about the quality of your voice, and about the fact that no one else could do it as well. Today--I wasn't thinking as much about those things, because I was too wrapped up in watching the character and feeling for her. And this despite the fact that she is less my kind of person than just about any other major character in the show. I was in tears by the end of "I Dreamed a Dream," and in about 22 previous performances I've attended over the past more than 10 years, with probably half a dozen or a dozen Fantines (including you, once before), I don't think that's happened to me. And the show looked somewhat different when I looked at it really caring about Fantine, which you made me do.

On a lighter note, nice high kick before you came out for your bow. If you're wondering how I saw that, I was in the house-left partial view seats. They're good seats for most of Les Mis, and especially good for watching Fantine. Actually, when you entered (as the rebel) through the archway into the house, you were about three feet from me. (Javert had an exit there -- I think I understand the way people respond to him a little better now that I've had him blow by me at that distance.)

Speaking of the rebel, now that I knew where to look I watched some of your performance as that character, too. Nice. I particularly liked the way your rebel seemed more than once to want to wimp out, yet steeled herself (himself?) to fight. Kudos for the somber attitude towards Eponine's death; I speculate (care to comment?) that there must be an added challenge in staying in character while watching someone else play a scene you yourself have played so well.

After the show: Thank you for asking whether I'd seen the matinee and for encouraging me to come to your last show. It means a lot to me to think that you cared whether I got to see you work and that performance in particular. I know I wish I could be there, both because it'll be quite a show, and because I would be proud to be in fact, as I will be in spirit, the swiftest to rise to applaud when you come out for your final bow in the role.

Good for you all, you have seen Lea perform in Les Miz. I failed to watch her show . I hope she will have another broadway show soon. Surely, I will not miss her concert in Tarrytown. I hope Lea you will sign my autograph. And, can have a picture taking with you. Thank you.

Lea, I heard it through my kababayans that you will be performing here in Southern California; I'm so glad to have finally found the best source of that information - right here! I will definitely make it to the Sycuan performance since it's closest to where I live. I have been a fan of yours since watching you perform on That's Entertainment many years ago, and have watched your star rise to the international stage. And I consider it a great privilege to be able to post here on your blog. Thank you!
