Pet Peeves

Oh come on, isn't there something in this life that just bugs you...
gets your goat... irritates you like crazy? Something that, when you
sense or experience it, makes you just wanna hit someone? Here are
mine.

1. Seeing a misspelled word or bad grammar. In other words, bad
inglizz (most especially when I'm the one who made the mistake).

2. When my name is spelled wrong. It's L-E-A. No H. There's a
specific reason why my name is spelled that way; I was named after my
maternal grandfather, LEO.

3. Hearing a really, really, reeeeeeally bad note. It makes my head do a 360.

4. Being downwind of someone with really bad breath or body odor. Que horror!

5. Unprofessional behavior. Inexcusable and inconsiderate.

6. Invasion of personal space (being too "in your face" to me). I
neeeeeed to breeeeeeathe, give me room pleeeeeeeeease. At its worst
when I was pregnant.

7. Mooching. If you want a piece of whatever's on my plate or in my
glass, please ask. Don't presume you can have some just because we're
friends.

8. A lack of self-awareness (mine included).

9. Being asked for an autograph while I'm eating. Kindly wait until
I'm done, or if you can't, ask a waiter to approach. It'll give me
time to swallow my mouthful.

10. Artistas resentful of signing autographs. Ano ka ba?!
Not only is it part of the job, it also can make someone really happy.
I remember asking for an autograph once... the actor was so masungit,
I got turned off. (Yes, I know you can't always sign everything, but
give whatever time you can.) Jimmy Stewart said something like this at
the stage door of a theater: "These people have travelled all the way
from wherever just to see me... the least I can do is pose for a
picture and sign an autograph." (I'll find the actual quote and post
it here, promise.)

11. Name dropping. Don't try to impress me by rattling off a list of
who you know. You should be impressive enough by yourself.

12. Insincerity. 'Nuff said.

13. Emotional manipulation. I... hate... this.

14. Someone being downright annoying.

15. Absentmindedness. Specifically, mine.

16. Computer hardware meltdown. I've had two laptops die on me. My
saving grace is that I know how to replace an internal hard drive.

17. Being unable to find what I'm looking for, be it a stapler, a checkbook or a passport.

18. A brand new anything breaking down.

19. When I destroy my brand new manicure a few feet from the salon. Nakakainiiiiiiiiiis!!!!!

20. Drinking 11 kamikazes and not getting a buzz... or drinking 2 and feeling like crap. What the f*ck is that???

21. Watching children on TV singing adult songs. This pet peeve is old, since seeing my contemporaries at the age of 10 singing "Big Spender." WTF?!?!?!?!?!?

22. Seeing big-bellied men with their shirts raised just enough to display their midsections.

Oh this blog entry will keep on growing. Bitch away in the comments section below!!! Be my guest!!!

Once when I was 12 or something I was in a bad mood being very masungit to people waving at me in the mall. My mom said, " Sweetheart, you don't belong to yourself anymore. You gave yourself to these people and they accepted you, so wave back."

Amen. I just found your blog and you are cracking me up.

I would add:

1. Slurping soup.
2. People who spit on the sidewalk.
3. Badly-behaved theatre patrons (I usher, so I get to yell at them... mwaaahahah)

I would like to add rude, inconsiderate, rude, loud, obnoxious, rude people. Especially the ones who will one day be doctors and for sure have terrible bedside manners. I'm taking a review class for the boards with my fiancee and it's unbelievable how many students there are who want to be physicians yet don't understand the meaning of professionalism, therefore I'm with you on #5. sheesh! Ok, enough. Thank you for making space for us to vent. I'm too lazy to write it in my own blog. This is Mich from the newsgroup, btw, if you haven't already solved the mystery. :)

Speaking of manipulative a-holes, this is my experience with a wannabe-director:

"You have a choice to choose what you want. Ang sa akin lang mas maganda kung ganito... Pero nasa inyo pa rin ang choice. Pero mas ok sa kin si... Kayo bahalang magdesisyon. Ang sa akin lang, ganito.. "

The choice really is his way or the highway! ;-)

Whoah!!! This seems right up my alley. When I get peeved, I get really peeved..Good thing I just recently posted these in my blog so I don't have to think now, LOL!!!! Here are mine:

(a) racist/sexist/baseless derogatory remarks (not necessarily about/against me or my own race)
(b) Sam Milby (don't ask 'cause I don't want to piss off anyone who might get pissed off because of my reasons)
(c) Love Radio
(d) stuff accidentally falling on dirty/wet floor. I get especially irked when that
happens in the bathroom. I get so PEEVED. I’d scream if I could even at
no one in particular. Mainly I just seethe in silence.
(e) Willie Revillame
(f) being interrupted while I’m in the middle of composing a song. It’s bearable
when I’m just writing a story or poem. A song is a different matter. I get disrupted, I almost often forget the melody. It’s not easy trying to remember it.
(g) Filipinos who have nothing good to say about their own country. Hypocritical
racists.
(h) families with dead loved ones being interviewed on TV and saying, “We are so sad. He was our only hope/chance to rise from poverty.” I mean, hey, I know where they are coming from, but I don’t agree. I wish they’d just say, “We are so sad to lose someone so beloved. We will surely miss him very much.” That way. Not like they’ve just lost a source of income. Sheesh!
(i) arrogant and idiotic public utility vehicle drivers
(j) people who push others down and around

I particularly agree on #21, in all the tv singing shows featuring young children, I never understood why they are dressed up so sexy, (we're talking of 10 year olds here), making birit with the song, singing very adult material, singing english song, you can't quite decipher what they are saying..For crying out loud, they are kids, they should be singing "children songs". "WTF" is really appropriate! LOL!

Ooh, I agree with lots of these, especially number 6 right now. Yesterday, someone I barely know got waaay to close to me and I was extremely uncomfortable... Ok, I have a couple of personal ones to add:
- It drives me nuts when I call someone and they answer their phone when they're really not free to talk. They pick up the call all agitated and snap at me for interrupting whatever it was they were doing. Uh, how was I supposed to know what you were doing? If you really can't talk at that very moment, then please don't answer the phone! Isn't that what voice-mail is for? Spare both of us the stress and let me just leave a message. (I put my phone on silent when I know I can't or don't want to be answering calls. Easy, no stress.)
- It also chaps my hide when people believe crazy things about me that aren't true, just because they think they have a reliable source. (I do my best not to care about that stuff because it's ridiculous, but sometimes it can really irk me.)
Ahhh, thanks for letting me vent! :0)

I shall name drop to fully convey how irritated I was in relation to your #10. Hahaha. So pardon me.

The first time I met Idina Menzel, I was so disheartened because she totally snubbed me. I was right in front of her and she was already signing my huge ass RENT movie poster, but she was giving out this major vibe that she wasn't in the mood at all. She looked so sungit pa. I was sooooo bummed. It was like, look, I have this mad screaming fangirl in me for you. Saying hi could've made my year ok?! I lined up for 2 hours in the cold just to meet you!!! This is the 1st and last time I'm doing this. I'm not the sort of person who lines up for anyone! I pursed theatre because of youuuu!! You can't do this to meee!! I wanted to be turned off, but I can't.. coz it's Idina Menzel! I had faith. Hahaha. I had to make excuses in my head that just because she's this major Broadway star, she doesn't have to feel obligated or happy to sign autographs for 200 people who lined up outside Virgin Megastore in Times Square in November.

At least, Taye Diggs talked to me. So that made up for it. Hahaha. He was surprisingly handsome in person.

As for my pet peeves, I have a lot and I need my own blog entry to list it all down - just like what you did. Hahaha. But my top 3 are..

1.) Black people, especially high school kids, talking LOUDLY in the subway. Especially the girls in their hoochie voice. I know this sounds completely racist, but I just can't stand that at all.
2.) A group of friends occupying the whole sidewalk as they are walking down on it AND not one of them would step aside to let people pass. And then, I'm the one who has to STEP OUT of the sidewalk so I won't bump into them. What's that about? Sometimes I try to make a point that I won't budge so one of them has to step aside. And then, I'm the one who ends up with a bruised shoulder. Haaay.
3.) My mom criticizes the DVDs I buy, which are mostly indie films, and then she'd go, "That was horrible! Low-budget siguro." Eeeeeeeeeee. That irritates me in levels so high that it has yet to be measured. That's always her copout.. if it sucks, then it must be low-budget. Hello, Poseidon anyone?

hmm...i guess i would add those cashiers who says kulang po ako ng P0.25 etc...if they would say that to 100 customers, ang laki na ng kinita nila sa iyo. considering they've already made huge sales for the day. would they accept it if you were the one na kulang ng P0.25 sa bayad? na-aahh...

On the bus, ticket shows "P89.75". You pay a hundred and you get 10 pesos for change. WHERE's the 25centavos??? AND, if they give and accept five and ten centavos in SM and other such malls, why can't we use those coins in our everyday lives without getting weird looks (or worse, angry looks)?

Name Game:

1. People always call me IRISH or writes my name with an "H". I simply hate it.
2. Acquaintances often calls my daughter Fiona when its supposed to be Yona. Nakakainis, kasi she's not an ogre naman e.
3. Calling my husband Maricel, when its just Marcelle. Hay naku, someone even dared to ask me, Marcelo ba real name niya? Kaasar, as if naman my husband's name would affect her.

Hello Lea,

I hate BIGOTS! My partner and I aren't married yet but they are several people who judge us. They even say that we are not considered a family. Yes, we have a son who is turning two next year. I'm like..."have you guys ever watched Sesame Street?" Very prejudiced people. We are of the same age and they say I'm old. Yes, I'm 35 but I don't like it. (You too sweetie). I'm your #1 fan!

I also hate latecomers and people who make me wait (and I'm the interviewer).

Bosses who are bitches.

People who call me short...So what if I'm not tall and sexy...At least I got my man and we are happy.

Taxi drivers who do not give your change and when you ask for it, they give you the look.

People who cut lines, impatient and crabby people.

Oh, my pet peeves just gets longer and longer...

I HATE PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO PREACH BUT DO NOT PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH.

For instance, people who preach about punctuality and professionalism. And then, during an awards night where they're supposed to accept an award (with PGMA handing it over), the one who was there already went out to eat for a while (didn't know about PGMA coming) and the other two were late. Ending? No one accepted the award! I'm not sure if they even saw you there, Lea (you were a guest).

I hate it when there is this great blog going on and I didn't know about it. I hope I'm not too late to put in my peeves.

1. Most of the things I hate were already submitted but I just can't resist to repeat WILLIE REVILLAME. Come on! Just because he gives out money during his tv program, that doesn't mean he's a good guy. Hellllllllooooooooo!!!!!

2. Pinoys from abroad, when they come home, bitch about the system here. They would say as loud as they can, "Ay, sa America, walang delayed flights, everything's organized." "In London, you don't have to wait long for anything." Hoy! Hindi lang kayo ang naka-abroad ano!

3. Pinays married to foreigners when, everytime there is a long line or something like that, they would say to their husbands loudly, "I'm sorry honey, Filipinos are just so undisciplined. It would be a relief to live in the States." Grrrrrrrr. Unfortunately, I heard this so many times already.

4. People who don't want to be talked about but would talk about somebody else all the time. Follow the golden rule, man!

5. About Lea's #10: Kristine Hermosa was here in Bohol about 2 years ago. She was not even asked to sign an autograph. People just waved at her. But her eyes were smoky, her brows together and her lips twitched all the time, as if disgusted. I heard people came all the way from the uttermost of Bohol (you don't want to know how many rides they had to secure just to get to the city and you don't want to know what kind of rides they were). We may be living here in the province but there are a lot of people here who are richer than Kristine Hermosa (and much, much educated). I wonder why I bothered to watch her? Stupid me.

6. Supermarkets displaying expired items.

7. I hate it when the cashier's computer won't recognize the barcode of your item and the cashier would tell you to go back to where you got it and get a replacement. Ay, miss, I don't work here. Hmp! And it isn't my fault your computer won't recognize it. Malay ko ba!

8. Having the same seat number with another person in a fast craft. How could they ever give the same seat number to another person when they would cross out with a big black pen the number they just gave you? Hu hu hu!

9. Wanting to bitch more but my mind stopped working already.

Time to think of happy thoughts so I can peacefully go to sleep.

Hi Lea =)

So this was the blog my student was referring to...that's why she made a list of her own pet peeves...

It's so nice that celebrities like you really find the time to sign autographs...
as they say kung wala yung fans wala rin yun mga celebrities diba....

I'll just name a few irritants off my head...
hmmm....
1. wrong grammar and spelling (I work in a school so I have to be strict on this)
2. stubborness and people who think that they have ALL the answers...
3. Insensitive people... if I were you relocate to a desert island para wala ka makabangga diba hehehe

thanks for this blog
it was surely a good read...

Hi Lea,

Let me just get this out of the way: I opened a multiply account, after resisting for more than a year, because I found your blog, and, in particular, this entry, and I just needed to respond. :D

I am a very huge fan, and I hope you don't mind that I'll be 'subscribing' to your blog. Your daughter looks exceedingly beautiful, by the way. :)

Now, let us add some things to this list of yours:

1. (Asian) people who do the V sign when they're in photos. ZOMG so annoying. I'm surrounded by fellow Asians in my school, and, you know, we're all smart and wonderful and great people, but then you're at a party, and someone takes out a camera, and everybody poses, and all the other Asian girls make the V sign.
2. People singing along to music when they have earphones on. Humming is fine, but blow-out-your-lungs singing is a no-no.
3. DVD players that skip right in the middle of very important scenes.
4. When you really need to go the restroom and you're just so relieved that you got there before, you know, something embarrassing happens, and you find that there's no toilet paper.
5. Being stuck behind (OOPS, not "in front of", sorry) a left-turner in an intersection when you need to go straight.
6. Inconsiderate people who sit on the federally-mandated seats for disabled/elderly on public transportation and basically refuse to get up even when someone who needs it more is hovering around.
7. Cliquey people. Don't even get me started.

There are a lot more, I'm sure, but I thought I'd contribute these. And now I go to my happy place. :D

I actually love you more for these!!! They are so funny mainly because many of them are true. Don't worry, Lea, I will never ask for you autograph; hearing you sing is enough for me. I do hope that my english will not annoy you though.

In fairness to other cashiers (though I must admit not all of them deserve defending):

I don't know about the stores in your area but in ours, it's okay for me to receive less than a few centavos for my change because sometimes they give me, for example, P1 even if they need to give me only P0.75 because they don't have 3 25 cents. I'd say that for the times the cashier would give me less than the coins they owe me, they match the times when I would get more than I should get. Patas lang. :)

I'm really liking this section. Shoooot, let me drop a few.

Waiters that make that...that..that FACE ..like you just made them do the most difficult task.Dude, it's just coffee.

Your DSL is down so you call tech support and spend 15 min. pushing numbers only to hear a recording tell you "to better accommodate your DSL needs please log on to www.youraF***INGIDIOT.com (sorry).

Friendster contacts who have 2 or 3 different accounts cause 'the other accounts are full'. 900 contacts?? what the F?

Filipinos who pretend not to know tagalog or waray or whatever. "I ken ahndehrstun but aye kennut tok it". HA?

chain letters. "Forward this letter on to 300 of your friends or youll...die!" or that "Bill Gates is giving away his money so hurry!!" and the worse is when it actually comes from a relative so it totally misses your junk mail box.AYYAYYAY!!

People who cut you off on the freeway but totally ignore you when your driving by them while giving them the finger.

Happy Valentines!

Wow! Only noticed this thread now....let me add my pet peeves...puhleese?!?

1) Real Estate agents who wait near the parking booth or in the exit of the drive through to hand out a brochure.
2) Telemarketers who call you at home every single day....and to think your phone number is not even in the phone-book and they know your name.
3) Salesladies that follow you all around when you already told them you are just looking.
4) Buying a new laptop, or camera that is pretty expensive, and then two weeks later, finding out a newer model was just released, and the model you bought just went on sale. :-/ grrrrr!
5) When you are about to park in a space, and a person comes out of nowhere to run and stand on that space you were about to park in. Double Grrrrr!
6) Losing my ruler or cutting board....which I have had since my F.I.T. days....I so need this for my business, and when I can't find it...I get so irritated
7) My ibook all of a sudden hanging while I am in the middle of a rushed project.
8) Bad manners....chewing food loudly..etc
9) Receiving gifts that have obvoiusly been stored for more than 2 years. An aunt gave me an album where the pages were yellowing and the binders were rusty. This same aunt gave my brothers a 70's tie, those real wide ones with wild prints.
10) Stewardesses on the plane who don't treat those seating in coach with much repect. :-(
11) Cashiers and salesladies behind the counter who take forever to ring up your purchases, slowly checking each and every item while chatting and finally stuffing them in a bag. They really drive me nuts especially when I am in a hurry.
12) When you invite a specific guest to a party, and they bring their other siblings along, or ask if they can bring other friends too.
13) Chain letters in my email or letters also in my email saying congratulations, you have won a million or so dollars. (How I wish!!!!!)
:-( :-( :(

-i also hate hearing people speaking in English in wrong grammars...heheh! like i don't do that sometimes! pero, anyway, i try naman not to. sometimes,d ko lang namamalayan especially when i talk fast. i stutter and then eventually, wrong things come out!
-i also hate dirty and smelly restrooms... especially kung sa school! naku! UTI all over again!
-when i see former classmates that i haven't seen for a long time and they say "oi, you've gained weight!" rrrrrrrrrrrrr! can't you keep it to yourself?
-a friend who betrays
-friends who text almost everyday, sending you nonsense messages or love quotes and forget to greet you on your birthday! this happens to me all the time! then, they would claim that they love u so much and that they miss you!
-friends that suddenly just ignores you, w/o you knowing the reason.
-"bestfriends" who tell others their secret and hide it from you!

i'm so loaded with the friends thing, noh? hehehe!

-hearing the voice of Janel from Wowowee...so annoying! parang she's overpowering the voices of all the other people singing on the show.
-Filipino guys dressing up like American rappers...w/ all the "bling-blings", very loose jerseys or 3-5 LAYERS of shirst (is it snowing here?), shorts that almost reach their ankles (haha) or wearing pants that hang & show their underpants even thought they have their belts on!..one word... WHY?!!! it's not cool...they look stupid!

anyway, those are just a few of my least favorite things! hahaha! i like doing this! i might make a journal like this to vent out all my anger and emotions!

-i forgot the one thing that i hate very very much (since grade 1):
people misspelling my name. in grade 1, my classmates spelled GENEVIEVE like this: JENEBIB...sometimes, people would write GENEVIVE--seriously, VIVE???, sometimes GENIEVIVE--i'm not a "genie" + "vive" again.
-i also hate it when they pronounce the V's as B's. so, i prefer to be called by my nickname na lang b/c it's much easier... Jenny. but some people spell it with a G. i hate it!!!

In the theater, where else: LUVVIES!

Vince Vicentuan said...

Once a peer told me I had violent tendencies. In fact I do, most especially when these things or persons make a spontaneous appearance before me that I start having these “mortal thoughts.” Let the body count begin.

1.Luvvies. There are plenty of ‘em “kissers” in the theater who are overly affectionate yet, watch out, they might be stabbing you insidiously. Ouch! Dami ba natamaan?

2.People who are so full of themselves. An’dami nila sa local TV!

3.Vandals. Leaving ugly marks (names, suppressed ideas, profanities) on walls, rocks or trees just to proclaim to the world they exist. Sarap basagin ng mga mukha!

4.Celebrities who think their rubbish lives are reality TV. Thank God, Booba and Alex Crisano are dead, career-wise, that is! Don’t we all wish they were, literally?

5.Motorists and pedestrians who think the street is their garbage bin. Sarap ipakain sa kanila ang basura nila!

6.Flatterers. Beware of people who overly flatter. Fact is, they don’t mean anything they say even if what they’re saying is actually true. They are ass-kissers who simply want their presence felt.

7.Richard Gomez. Every time I see him on TV with that funny voice, it just throws me off! And now the Senate? Me showbiz chismis na sa Senado!

8.Media-manipulating, grandstanding politicians who are supposed to be lawmakers but whose orchestrated TV appearances make you think they want to be the next Alex Crisano or the next most important porn star.

9.Names of politicians conspicuously written on public school buildings, waiting sheds, lampposts and even ambulances and garbage trucks. Kapal ng mga mukha!

10.Ear-splitting karaoke singers. I used to live next to a neighbor who sang as if the neighborhood was his soundstage. Boses palaka na nga, ang lakas pa ng loob lakasan ang volume. Sarap hulugan ng bomba!

11.Little kids (yes, Lei) who make birit on local TV singing competitions! And the make-up too! Equally irritating are the parents who get focused on screen lip sync-ing, choreographing and all, which make you think they are the ones who really want to compete. And don’t get me started with that Celine Dion song, magwawala talaga ako!

12.Smokers who have no human regard for non-smokers like me. I have to be very bloody-straight with this one: Smokers who die of lung cancer and other related lung diseases deserve all the cruel deaths they may have, no offense meant to those who died already and to those non-smokers who died because of someone else’s smoke. Remember Dana Reeves?

13.And, neighbors who burn their garbage. Haven’t they heard of furans and dioxins and global warming? Sarap nilang sunugin!

Right now, as I am typing this, a smoker sits beside me. ASAN BA YUNG CHAINSAW? ASAAANNNN???!!!!!

Ano? You're right; you've managed to list the most vital points people sometimes miss. As a performers it's our goal to perform. Spectators spectate, Law enforcement enforces, fans (well, um fan out and spread the good news of the performance)... Many performers, both those who reach stardom and even those who do not, sometimes get masama at masungit. They lost tact and manage to show their ugly side.

Just a smile and a little autographed note can bring hope to the world many times over. That hope we may never be able to pinpoint, but it will lead to great things.

Great leaders, great performers, great neighbors, great people. =^..^=

That's true about celebrities refusing to give you an autograph. It could really hurt someone and it's a major turn-off. I remember when I watched Wicked in London to see Idina Menzel, I was so happy that she signed my programme. If not, I would've really felt bad coz I flew all the way from Manila just for her. So I'm glad that you know how it feels.

I hope it's not yet too late..just can't resist to share mine as well:

2. UNFAITHFUL HUSBANDS( and wives!). Period.

3. MISTRESSES who are sooooooo makapal. Like it's their honor that these men chose them over the wife?

4. Imperfect people who would say.." and taba niya/ang panget niya!"...

5. Friends who talk and laugh insensitively LOUD in public and they would speak barok english?

6. People who do not know how to apologize! Taas ng mga ihi.

7. Cashiers who are super taray.

8. People who do not know how to listen. Like you have told the story na and they would say "ano daw yun? or ano yun?

9. People who sarcastically gives out compliments.

10. Dami pa!

Additional po:

1. Celebrities who refuse to submit themselves to security check at malls. Remember Mark Gil who punched a guard for frisking him?

2. Self-serving "news advisories" kuno of the two giant networks (Tell me who doesn't know!) that prick your viewing sanity, on a regular interval pa! As if naman they could improve their ratings e pareho namang mga basura ang palabas nila. Kung hindi remake e poor copycat ng isang foreign movie or show. Have you ever wondered why all of their noontime shows ay puro kantahan at perya games? Mas mganda pa RPN 9. Sori wala kami keybol e. Lea, nanonood lang ako ng weekend variety show sa TV pag ikaw guest.

3. Media men who in the practice of their profession always invoke their right to truthful reportage e kitang kita naman sila sa TV na parang walang ipinagkaiba sa mga usyusero sa crime scene. Tapos pag nadisiplina ng pulis e akala mo kung sinong mga untouchables at VIPs kung makaasta. Pakita niyo naman disiplina nyo para maniwala kami sa report nyo!

4. Karylle's singing. Di ko mahagip tono niya no matter how popular the songs she sings are. O baka naman tone deaf lang ako? Lea, does she make your head do a 360-degree spinner? She does mine. O baka naman yung vibrato niya ang off-key? What do you think? Hahahaha!
