Milestones

Over the last couple of weeks, our little girl has had quite a few
milestones: she's started rolling over from her back to front, and back
again... she's now sucking her thumb to soothe and comfort herself (I'm
not sure if that's a good thing, but it's proven very helpful to us),
she laughs (as in giggles and guffaws, healthy belly laughs that, I
think, she got from me -- it'll be really easy to find her), and loves
to smile.

My little girl is growing up so fast!  I'd better enjoy and savor each
moment, for I'll never be able to get them back once they pass.  Right
now (I'm writing this entry on the plane) she's in her car seat chewing
on a teething toy.  Before we know it that first incisor will break
through.  I'd better stock up on baby teething meds to help her through
that phase.

Amazing!  Children are amazing creatures, and I'm so happy to be a parent.  Nothing like it!

It's true, children grow up so fast. Being a parent is challenging but it's very rewarding and wonderful. My daugher has enriched my life and I never imagined how wonderful and beautiful life could be until I became a mother.

This is the time when you should always keep an eye on Nicole; they really roll over so fast, especially when they're on the bed. I should know because my baby fell off the bed when he was only 5 months old. =( Good thing our bedroom was carpeted so that kinda softened the blow. But it was still a sleepless night for me. I just had to post this especially since you mentioned about Nicole able to roll over now. Even when you think she's too far from the edge of the bed or you have a pillow blocking a possible fall, do not underestimate her ability to roll past the edge.

Thank you for being so generous and sharing moments with us, Lea! :)

haha! Nicole's a fast roller, too, huh? My mom tells me stories, and quite often at that, recalling how quick a roller I was, as well, falling into the mosquito net tucked into our mattress despite the wall of pillows she put around me. lol Thank you, indeed, for sharing these moments with us. :) I bet Rob has the digital camera/video camera permanently attached to his hand capturing every moment possible of Nicole's progress. Keep up the wonderful parenting!!

Hi Lea!
Just want to share with you too, my 7 month old baby girl and 3 year old son are both thumb suckers...our pediatrician said, it is a good thing! They are able to pacify/soothe themselves on their own , and not mention they can put themselves to sleep ...more zzzz...zzzzz's for you and Rob, I hope. It's one of the best thing in the world...to be a mother! Enjoy....

i guess it's ok as long as you ask people who will hold the little hands of your baby to wash their hands thoroughly first (virus-infected hands + thumb-sucking baby = amoebiasis or diarrhea). disinfect the toys and her other belongings once in a while and be sure to have an alcohol, wet tissue or wet towel to wipe the hand of your baby after someone (whoever they may be) touch or hold her (if you don't have the heart to ask them to wash their hands first, hehe). that's just for now, when she started to crawl and reach/grab things, other drastic measures could and should be done. well, i'm a freak, what can i say. (*_*)

Thumbsucking is fine, and I heard, is good for the brain development for some reason. At least in Nicole's age. At my age, thumbsucking won't be very helpful. Ü Have a nice day!

i agree with the poster above...thumbsucking babies are smarter.. my nephew FINALLY found his long lost thumb, hehehe... and it is his "safety blanket" of sort.. he only sucks when he's sleepy.

Kids will not be called "a gift from God" for nothing. They make us appreciate the beauty of life and they make us also forget that hair must be properly combed or wear a fashionable dress at all times :) But who cares, they complete us!!

hope you're not tired of guests saying "i'm a fan"... i have been a fan since your annie days. i'm a mom of two, the youngest being 19 months old. it's a lot of work, but just one look at them and you know they're worth it. it's more work here in the US because of the unavailability of our ever reliable yayas at home. our first born just started preschool so yes, they grow up so fast. savor every moment. pretty soon nicole will tell you "mama, i can do it myself"... waaaaa!!!! good luck and keep updating your blog. it's such a good read!

Yup, enjoy it while you can... With 3 boys of my own (13, 10 and 2.5), I still can't get enough of them

us kids may be a pain in the neck for our parents but they sure love us, no matter what. the joy brought by children to their parents is priceless. =) (at least that's what my mom says.)

That's a very interesting tidbit! Won't that affect the growth of the teeth, though? You know, like, they will grow a bit slanted (I don't know it I'm describing it right. I'm not so good at that, sorry).

...Kids say the darnest things:

TJ (my niece): Mama, what's Sarah's real name?
Jeng (my sis): Who?
TJ: You know, Dorina! (from the soap)
Jeng: Sarah Geronimo.
TJ: No!
Jeng: Then what?
TJ (mischievously): Sarah...Cuneta!!!!

LOL!!!!...It's a corny joke, I know, but coming from a five-year-old, it was funny ;p

yeah, it is affecting slightly (on the lower side) ....it's not so bad though....our dentist may possibly recommend braces later down the line...

Speaking of milestones, just discovered this really nifty milestone tracker from Lilypie. http://lilypie.com/first_birthday.php

It lets you create your own Lilypad baby days which you can paste on your webpage. It's so cute. You can use it to track her age or how many days are left till her 1st birthday.
