What Does Love Mean?

I got this via email and thought it was so sweet I thought to post it here.

_____

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8-year-olds, "What does love mean?"

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.  See what you think:

_____

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore.  So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too.  That's love."

Rebecca - age 8

_____

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.
You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."

Billy - age 4

_____

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."

Karl - age 5

_____

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."

Chrissy - age 6

_____

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."

Terri - age 4

_____

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."

Danny - age 7

_____

"Love is when you kiss all the time.  Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.  My Mommy and Daddy are like that.  They look gross when they kiss."

Emily - age 8

_____

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."

Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

_____

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate."

Nikka - age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)

_____

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."

Noelle - age 7

_____

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well."

Tommy - age 6

_____

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared.  I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.  He was the only one doing that.  I wasn't scared anymore."

Cindy - age 8

_____

"My mommy loves me more than anybody.  You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night."

Clare - age 6

_____

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken."

Elaine - age 5

_____

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt."

Chris - age 7

_____

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."

Mary Ann - age 4

_____

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."

Lauren - age 4

_____

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." (what an image)

Karen - age 7

_____

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it.  But if you mean it, you should say it a lot.  People forget."

Jessica - age 8

_____

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four-year-old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,

"Nothing, I just helped him cry."

Kids only say the truth, it's we, the adults who can't. My 10 year old son asked me out of the blue, how "exactly" does one make a baby. Over the years, I've been telling him that a baby is made out of love, never the actual fact. I sent him to ask his dad instead...

my son Joshua is sweet, always saying I love you, miss you and kissing and hugginh a nd all that. One day, he said, " Mom, you are so pretty, I love you! Then just to be funny I go, you don't love Mama if she isn't pretty? He goes, " I still will, but you're not ssexy, I still love you." nProud ME!!!

Hi Ms. Salonga! I can't believe that you might actually be reading what I'm writing! Eek!! You are such an amazing and talented performer! Those quotes are so sweet and adorable! I was wondering if there is an address to write you to. I'm happy now, though! I love you! My email is eva0406@comcast.net, if you'd like to know.

Once, an episode of ghost whisperer made me cry, when my two-year-old son noticed, he came to me and hugged me with one hand and gently rubbed my back with the other, and he whispered "Ma don't cry, it's okay, i'm here na!" That's love.

Let me share with you a poem I wrote in my diary the night after I spanked my three-year old son for a very naughty deed. Feeling guilty and all, the words were like a release of guilt. Hope this helps enlighten our understanding of love no matter who we are...

Love is Imperfect
By Vince Vicentuan

What is the equation of a perfect father?
Is it love multiplied by affection
Raised to the power of every second
And minute that he spends on his son or daughter?

Or is it the worries that carry the weight
Every time he is away -
The fear of the unknown
And the insecurities that he has to endure?

Love will never be without frets
For it is in loving that we stare
Fear in the eye and yet
The return is immense to those who bear.

A father, mother, sister or brother
For as long as he or she loves
Will never find the perfect formula
For loving is checkered with pain and guilt.

Hence, let us love with no limits
No boundaries, no qualms, no ends
For only in loving we find the true meaning
Of our very limited existence.

Love is ageless. I wish you could jump out of the skin that the world has painted for you and discover the real you - someone who knows love staright from her heart.

Once a father caught his young son scribbling something on his car. Furious, he took the wrench and smashed his child's hand with it. After realizing the terrible thing he did, he brought his son to the hospital where the doctor said his hands could not be remedied. Frustrated and all, he went home crying, went to the garage and looked at what his son scribbled on the car. It said: DADDY I LOV YU.
