Uh, we have a problem...

Yesterday, with barely a warning to speak of, my apartment building needed emergency repairs, so the water was shut off.  As in, no running water... no dishwashing... no bathing... no toilet flushing... no hygiene.  In other words, a utility that has become a necessity has suddenly ceased to be.

It's something I don't expect in New York.  Then again, I do live in an old building (which I love; the walls are so thick I can't hear my neighbors' business, and they can't hear mine), so I should come to expect something like this.  It's just a hassle more than anything else.

If the water doesn't yet return by tomorrow morning, I'll just leave for work early and shower there.  In the greater scheme of things, this is but a minor problem... we've suffered worse before.

"this is but a minor problem... we've suffered worse before." Really?! What happened before?

When I hear others say, "It happens to the best of us," now I think I know what they mean.

I remember a story you told us before about having to leave your apartment building in the middle of the cold night in your pjs due to a false fire alarm/evacuation. The adventure continues...

"This, too, shall pass!"

reminds me of visiting my mom's aunt's house in taal...since there was no running water until a certain time, we had to use bottled water to wash up.

Water, along with power failure, or in my case a few weeks ago, there was strong Santa Ana winds, it blew the water heater's pilot light......so we had to take a cold, cold, shower for awhile, until I got to fix the pilot light.

I meant in life. But yeah, we've had some apartment drama in the past: the fire alarm going off at 5 AM and having to head down 5 floors to the street in our pajamas... there being no hot water... or no heaters in the winter... walking to work in the middle of a blizzard... yep.

Happened to me too before, no water, and all set for a job interview years ago. for some reason, here kasi in the states, we're used to having water all the time, that when water runs out...its such a hussle...unlike my growing up in united paranaque, where we get water every other day, and fill up the tanks, we have reserves...it wakes me up, and should have a spare drum w/ H20 for any emergencies...dito pa naman sa vegas, tight din sa water, summer especially, where cities are divided to A, B, C and D group...we have a specific day to water the plants...just an fyi.

Happened to me once too, buti na lang we were rehearsing at the Duke-- one of the best substitute showers in the world.

Try living in a basement apartment and the sewage system backs ups? This happened to me 7 years ago. It was not pretty. They also had to shut off the water for the entire building. My predicament was worse than most tenants though.

WOW! it's my first time to visit your blog... =)

Yes, Aaron's a fine looking man... with an equally fine looking wife (I've never met her, only heard about her from the other guys in the show). Supermodel-esque daw.

The water situation's all squared away, and actually much better! I think they upped the pressure, and showering is so much nicer now!
