Due to technical difficulties...

More like "in spite of".

Our barricades didn't work last night... well, they eventually did.  After On My Own was done, the barricades didn't connect and join like the two perfectly fitting puzzle pieces they normally are.  Our lights were also acting strange, putting us in dramatic lighting instead of the bright yellow-orange light we had grown accustomed to.  I thought, "wow, a little romantic lighting for the barricades tonight... ohhhhhhhkay."  I then noticed that no one was climbing the stage left barricades... upon closer examination, it was majorly slanted.  It wasn't fitting right with the stage right one, which was just fine and being climbed as normal.  So, for a large chunk of the scene, those who would normally be clambering up were on the floor.  Whilst the scene was going, the barricade driver backed his unit up a bit, fixed the incline, and parked again.  Once we got clearance from the stage manager that it was safe, then we started up and down it again.

Live theatre... how I love thee.

(Yes, I'm still up... besides that I'm normally still awake very, very late into the night, my little girl woke up.)

Good thing no one was hurt. I'm sure the audience didn't notice the glitches and if they have, I mean if I were there, it won't be distracting. I'm sure the performance of the cast would more than cover for the slight mistakes.

Good morning Lea, I hope the rest of the week goes better for you and the rest of the cast. You take care of yourself . Enjoy your upcoming vacation. You deserve it.

Do you guys rehearse for situations like that or just play it by ear. I would imagine it might be a little difficult to know where to go in situations such as that.

Yup, its a good thing no one got hurt.

Must be cool to see you climbing up the barricades! I didn't know that you were part of The Barricades scene until you posted your Backstage Les Miz pics few weeks after we've watched the show. :)

Hi Lea,
The show must go on right? Glad to know that your whole crew is very safety conscious. That's why theater is never boring cause you never know what to expect and no matter how many times you perform the same, there is always something different. By the way, I saw your rendition of "Via Dolorosa" in YouTube and I hope you don't mind cause I posted it on my multiply site but I plugged in your new "Inspired" CD. Thanks!

yes! she was practically in all the scenes, she was camouflaged with the costume boy cap! It's pretty neat when you know this because you can spot her if you look for her- more so if you were close up. She climbed pretty high up on those barricades. As if she never had a kid!

Good thing it didn't happen when we watched watched the show last July. It was certainly one of the highlight of our visit to US. Kala ko nga hindi namin matatapos ang show because my pregnant wife complained of pain in the lower abdomen towards the end of Act I. Ganda pa naman ng seat namin. Lol.

I hope everything will go back to normal soon.

For those who are watching. Pay close attention to Lea's voice and tell me if you noticed something. I don't know if it was the sound system but her voice was different. It's become fuller and richer... well, her voice is full and rich, yeah, but it's still different. If you close your eyes, you would even think that the voice was coming from a classically trained individual (and I'm not saying this to please bigsis ha, iba talaga dinig ko... objectively speaking :)

On my Own is one of my favorite song. I sang it on our voice lessons and i studied your musics... i'm really a big fan of yours ms. lea!

I agree, Lea's voice has matured and it is so much fuller and richer than ever before! I had an opportunity to sing with her (our chorus) back in the "People Power" days in Manila where she did the solo of our song arrangement of "Onward Christian Soldiers" in Araneta Coliseum. I wonder if Lea can still remember that cause I think even Jackielou Blanco was there. I did see Lea live on Broadway in her Saigon days. I missed her Eponine on Broadway by a week cause she had to do the academy awards show for Aladdin.

Hi there!! I watched Les Miz the night of Aug 7th.. Is this the night you had the technical difficulties? Well if it was, I didn't notice the barricades not connecting but I did notice the lights.. hehehe

And to you Mrs. Chien.. Thank you for being so nice to my family, for sharing a few smiles with them eventhough you said you were in a hurry.. And for that I will watch Les Miz again and try to capture a picture/moment with you.. I wasn't able to do so because I was showing my family around, nanggaling kasi sila ng Manila, so shempre ako ang tagakuha ng KODAK moments!! I live at Jersey anyway so I will be back to re- experience that "good goosebumply moment" when you sang I DREAMED A DREAM!!

i saw your performance last friday, aug. 10 and was wowed once again with your heart-tugging turn as "fantine". also liked the girl who played "eponine".
natawa ako when you came out to sign playbills, you wiped off the rain on the cover kasi "basa" you said. then you went back in to get your umbrella. admired you more for little things like that. very grounded ka pa rin kahit you're way up there already. you're even mentioned on rosie o'donell's blog hahaha!

I was so blown away when I saw Lea Salonga on your stage. I gasped and started to cry. Is there some way we (those of us that can’t make it to NY) can see more of her before her brief run is over?

Rosie replied: i agree. she is amazing

Because of you, I would really love to go to NY and watch a show with you in it. I like your singing, and I have tons of your CD, though I missed the last 8 years.

Do you think you'd ever have a show in Dallas?

All in a 'good' day's work, huh? Thank goodness no 'freak' accidents....

Hi Lea,

I just wanted to thank you for graciously posing for a picture with me, my cousins and uncle after your Les Mis show back in July. It was definitely a thrill and honor to be in your presence. It was only the second time I saw you in person; the first was during your LA concert in March of 2005.

I've always been a big fan of yours way back when you were in That's Entertainment. And like millions of Filipinos, I was so proud and happy for you when you bagged the lead role of Miss Saigon. By the way, did you know that your Miss Saigon audition was featured in the "Broadway: The American Musical" documentary that was recently shown on PBS? Also, somebody uploaded a 1989 episode of The Probe Team that featured the Manila casting of Miss Saigon ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHNVyKf0SRw.

I can still remember the nights when my sister and I listened to the Miss Saigon soundtrack tapes and just imagining the scenes of the musical as we listened to song after song. It was the closest we could ever get to a musical... until about seven years later when I got the chance to work in California. During my first visit to New York, I knew I couldn't leave the place without seeing a live Miss Saigon performance even if you were no longer playing the role of Kim (although last month I did see a complete albeit illegally recorded Miss Saigon show with you as Kim that was uploaded on youtube.) It was the first musical I ever saw and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. The second, and hopefully not the last, was Les Miserables.

I'm rambling too much already so let me thank you once again for your time and for reading this. I hope to catch you again in another one of your great performances.
