Ugh...

I'm so out of shape.  Two months on tour, and no time at the gym.  I busted out one of my workout DVDs, and could only finish HALF OF IT!!! Granted it's the Insanity workout, one that's guaranteed to make even the toughest cookie cry, but still.  I don't like doing anything halfway.

That's what happens when you eat your body weight in food more than you should.  Ugh.

I recently saw old pictures of myself (taken at age 28 or so), and couldn't believe it.  And believe it or not, I thought I was overweight at the time.  Objectively speaking though, I was in fighting shape, thanks to TaeBo everyday and performing in Miss Saigon 6 times a week.  More recently, while in Les Miz, I kept my weight down by walking to work daily and not eating too much because of having to sing in that goshdarned corset.

Life... that's what happened... and it manifested itself in my hips.

Again, ugh.

I really shouldn't be so down on myself... after all, a fitness program can always be restarted, regardless of how much time was spent away from it.  Thankfully there is a lot of incentive: plenty of opportunities in New York next year, and a return to musical theater (in a few of its many incarnations).  That should help me keep my eyes on the prize.

Motivation... must keep focused...

When I was a kid, the one story that I kept wanting to hear over and over was 'The Little Engine that Could'...a little train engine who's choo-choo sounded like, 'I think I can, I think I can...' It was a story about believing in yourself, and perseverance & determination. With an eye on getting in shape, I know that you could be that little engine that could! :-)

You can do it! You have a nice gym nearby. Hay! I myself need to lose weight after I deliver...sigh! I know once you start an exercise program, you stick to it. So, I am sure you'll be back to your ideal weight in no time.

You're not alone. Just like alcohol and nicotine, food is too addicting! And it's hard to go cold turkey. hahahaha. It drives your brain to delirium and receives a deluge of food thoughts, driving you to insanity, driving you to the nearest drive-thru!

It seems like the older we get, the easier it is to it put on and the harder it is to take off!! But don't be too hard on yourself. You looked fabulous at the Horseshoe in Hammond. I've battled with weight - the "on again/off again" 15-20 lbs. for most of my life. Key is to find a way to avoid the "good stuff" - the SWEETS - as much as possible. I started drinking protein shakes as meal substitutes and some of the weight has started to come off - and I haven't been so starving that I wanted to eat my hand, either. So little by little...... And just wait til you get back HOME and have Nicole to be chasing around - THAT will give you PLENTY of exercise!!

And remember, you don't have to be a "stick" to be beautiful. That's another part of the violence that is done to women - making them think that a little weight makes them less desirable. BUNK!!

Thanks again Lea for all the joy that you bring to people! God bless you always!

Well, just remember, you didn't gain it overnight, so you aren't gonna lose it overnight, either. believe me, this is my mantra as I contemplate giving weight watchers a try, because I've gotta do something .... And good, you're gonna be relatively close to me this year ... Maybe I'll get out to nyc to see you, but on a grad student budget, I'll more realistically have to be content with watching you on youtube or the Tv, :) But Keep it up! You'll get to where you want to be, just remember my mantra!!

since im already 56 yrs old my exercise is walking in the morning, but exercise is not enough , we should also balance tha food that we are eating in our everyday lives,as much as possible avoid salty and fatty foods more on fish, veggies and more fruits and drink plenty of water.

It is so cool to find your blog, woooow.
I'm a 20-year-old girl in Taiwan, and I'v been your fan for like...four years or so, since our music teacher showed us the video in which you sang "on my own".
Me and friends kept on searching for your information but there's little in Taiwan. And we search desperately for your albums but they're just unavailable here :(
Anyways~I really love the emotions in your voice, you know, everytime i hear you sing I just get goose bumps!!
I think your voice changed a bit, like earlier its sweeter but now its stronger, more powerful! I like the change but I also enjoy hearing your ealier works:)
Recently I had a broacasting program (it's a student radio staion) and I'm so thrilled because i got to share your great songs with all the listeners!
And it turns out that you really get a lot of fans here in Taiwan, for my classmates also told me they heard about you.
How I wish you'll come someday and have a concert here:) That'll be a dream come true!
I read essays about your babies and saw some really cute videos, they're INCREDIBLY CUTE!! I can feel your happiness :)
I'll keep on being your fan and go for whatever i dream of, just like u:) !
Best Wishes, Rose

P.S. I even want to go to Columbia Univ. for a Ph.D, so that I may go to see you on stage in Broadway. :D Anyway, I'll try my best.
