Only Human

I have no voice.  As in, right now, I can't speak above a whisper and phlegm is lodged in some weird place in my throat.  I probably caused myself some fatigue, since it's been around 2 months since my last concert.  But still.  Even at my most tired, I don't lose my voice.  I guess having a bad cold whilst doing a concert did the trick.  How strange... I tested my voice the night before in the shower, and at sound check.  Ah well...

So yeah... I'm human after all.

It's a bit difficult to be silent again... the last time I had to impose non-usage of my vox was way back in 1990.  It's now 2008, which is a good indication of how well I've taken care of my voice ever since then.

But yeah, it's been a busy time, and people have been getting sick left and right these days.  One of my cousins (who watched my show last night) was sick too.

So... right now... I'm trying to rest myself, just keeping away from any unnecessary stress.  I've got the Venture Brothers on TV and a hot shower waiting.  Maybe once this phlegm wad is dislodged, I can be on the road to recovery.

To those waiting for me in Bacolod on January 12, I'll be there!  I might contruct an easier, less-stressful repertoire, but rest assured I'll be there.  There's yummy kadios to be had!

Sounds like a congestion alright. Despite the bug, I heard the concert was awesome. I'll catch the next one, tied at work this week. I feel for you and I do hope you feel better soon.

I'll say prayers that your ailment will clear up (and out) very quickly, and that you'll be feeling like yourself again in no time!

I guess it happens to all of you. Rache lost her voice after the first run of Avenue Q and then it just reappeared after a certain period of rest...just lucky it never happened during both runs...see you in Manila.

Hi, Lea! I'm sorry that you're feeling a bit under the weather. I have always been a HUGE fan, ever since your stint with the Bubblegum Kids. It's so heartening to see such a talented woman doing great at having it all. :) Hope I get to see you perform live again some time soon (my last time was at the Philippine Idol tv show in Megamall).

Happy new year! :)

A sumptuous bowl of hot chicken arroz caldo with lots of ginger would be therapeutic, especially if cooked by your Mom perhaps. :)

Hello Manang! We're having a cold weather here in Hong Kong right now that's why some people are getting sick too. Whenever I feel something is coming, I take medicine right away and rest early. I can't afford to lose my voice as I perform everyday. And of course, I drink our secret potion (hehehe) - "PEI PA KOA". Take care and have a fast recovery!

Get well soon. My family has been sick left and right over the holidays, and I'm trying to fight it too, but if it does hit me, so be it. Just like you, I'm only human after all. If you're still in So. Cal., enjoy the rainy days ahead. Cuddle up in a nice warm blanket and watch TV.

Thanks for a great concert Lea, the only time I noticed any problems with your voice was when you spoke just prior to the encore, I couldn't believe you were able to sing Tomorrow as well as you did. Thank you for putting on such a fantastic show despite not feeling well.

Too bad I wasn't able to make it to your San Manuel concert due to work, however, I really admire the dedication you show to your fans by performing despite your headcold. I do wish you a speedy recovery! I'm sure you'll feel much better once you've returned home to the warm, tropical climate of the Philippines.

And so the world is less beautiful for a while, but I'm sure you'll recover. Allow me to wish you a speedy recovery, and to refer you to pastrami.net for chicken soup via FedEx.

Admirable perseverance, I must say.

oh ms. lea! this happened to me too just this january. i lost my voice due to infectious laryngitis. i don't know how i got it but my doctor said it could be due to stress or acute acid reflux. personally i think it was due to stress and that darn cold iced tea a absent-mindedly drank after rehearsing for hours. i lost my voice the night after an important performance. as in no sound was coming out, except something that resembled a croaking frog. i prayed hard for God to give me my voice back. i'm thankful that He did after more than a week of vocal rest. i am so glad you have your voice back. i know how frustrating it is to go through something like that.
