... it's strep throat. Both Nicole and I were diagnosed this morning. So now we're both on antibiotics and plenty of rest, as well as drinking tons of water. Nic does the water thing already so that's not an issue for her, but giving her medication is like being in the ring with The Rock. Or John Cena. Or Batista. Although resistance is futile, her resistance of us is exhausting! That kid is strong!
I have a week to get over this, but things should be fine in a few days. I just have to take it easy vocally until Friday. It does put a damper on rehearsals for me since I can't sing out for a while, but that's okay. Better it happened now than later. Or worse, Friday!
As I write this I'm looking outside the window at the trees swaying in the wind. Looks like there's a storm brewing. I hope the motorists that are on the road are exercising prudence and are being really careful.

Get well soon Miss Lea.. See you on Saturday. God Bless.
OH nooooooooo!!!! I had strep throat 2 years ago and you know what got me through? Lots of WARM (NOT HOT!) Chamomile tea... as in LOTS OF IT!!! It apparently has analgesic properties so its soothing to the throat and can help ease headaches too... you can add some honey into that too.. but not too much as too sweet (i discovered) irritated my throat.. I'm sure if you put some in Nic's sippy cup with a little honey, she'll enjoy this warm drink too. Hope this helps manang... GET WELL SOON and cant wait to see you and the gang on thursday!! Yippee!!! You'll be the bomb as always!
Get well soon, Miss Lea and Nic! :)

Well, you're doing all the right things.

Pagaling kayo:)
Thanks, you guys... we're on the road to recovery. We're both on antibiotics and anti-fever meds so we'll be good to go in a few days.
Ah, streptococcus is bacterial. Your antibiotics will definitely cure it. Hope you both get better soon.
Happy anniversary and have a great show!
yeah, the most challenging part about kids is when they are sick and administering medicine. we have to play games with them. OR mix it with some juice eg.cranapple. sometimes it does the trick!
Praying for you and your daughters speedy recovery...
Uh-oh! I'll continue to pray for you & Nicole. I hope Nic was able to enjoy her birthday.
Get well soon, hot tea and lemons should help.
yes, prudence is really a virtue!
albularyo ka rin pala?
Belated happy mother's day, ms. lea! i hope the antibiotics run their course well so you and your baby girl start feeling better! strep throat suuucks.
take care and get well soon!
Get well soon. Good luck with your show (and will getting Nic to take her meds). Happy Anniversary! Thanks also for the suggested reading you gave in the Phil Star today. I read it on the plane from Vietnam to Manila. Been looking for more books to read to help me understand what is going on in the mind and body of my baby and what I should do. Been reading about the Montessori method of development for infants and toddlers. How was your experience with Montessori? Where are you sending Nic to school?
get well soon!
a die hard fan just told me about this blog of yours. she's in vegas and i'm in san francisco. she's wondering why you haven't done any concerts in las vegas. is it coming soon? congrats and best wishes on your anniversary concert. and of course, i'll be praying for your (and your nic) quick recovery.
lea's concert in las vegas in year 2009 after cinderella 's asian tour.
have you tried using a special medicine spoon or maybe a syringe (without the needle, of course), so that she can take her medicine "all by herself"? my 2-yr old twins take pride in taking their medicine "all by themselves" with the syringe right now ;)
We're using the syringe, but she's a tough little customer. Even though the medicines taste pretty yummy, she won't take them on her own. I'm sure that once she gets the principle that it's good for her, and it actually tastes good, she'll voluntarily take her meds. But we're not there yet. I didn't start volunteering till I was 3, and even then, at times it was reluctantly.
Good thing, your baby Nic is tough with medicine, Payong pang kalikasan - you should lessen the antibiotic you give to your daughter, so she could develop here immune system.
This is very proven. My twin sister she's so dependent with Antibiotics. Mas palagi siyang sakitin . Payong pang kaibigan lang.
meritcavestany - She has a concert in Las Vegas: http://afleasalonga.multiply.com/calendar/item/10037/Lea_Salonga_in_Concert_-_Las_Vegas_Nevada
Check her official site or this link for her concert schedule: http://afleasalonga.multiply.com/calendar
True. My tita was diagnosed because of antibiotics and mefenamic acids; her doctor even forbid her to take ibuprofen.
Hope you both get well soon! Keep taking those meds and plenty of liquids, liquids, liquids. Belated Happy 2nd Birthday to Nicole, too!! =D
WOW! Thanks much for the info arkitekfhc! I can't wait...Ill watch the show for sure, and bring my cousins with me!
poor Nic too young to be taking antibiotics
No, she's old enough. The dosage isn't super strong, only strong enough to knock out whatever is giving her a fever and super sore throat. She's so much better now, appetite is back and her level of activity has returned as well. She was with me at rehearsals and was, as usual, constantly after the harp and drum kit.
We should never ignore sore throat (esp. bacterial) in children. That’s why we should always heed the doctor’s advice to run the full course of antibiotics to avoid serious complications of “Strep throat” especially Rheumatic Fever which could in turn lead to Rheumatic Heart Disease.
another musician in your family. one day nic will have a concert of her own.
Had strep throat too last April...
I kept on fussing with my throat, checking if the white spots are still there or not...
Hope you're doing well and break a leg this Friday!
And how are you feeling now, Lea? Are you also holding up well during rehearsals?
Inquiring fans want to know...;-)
Doing much better, thanks!
i'm excited...can't wait for the concert on fri, i mean later. good luck lea! i'll be watching with my "big sis" yey!
and Thank God, you did it on your concert series... seemed like no strep throat occurred.. hehe.. God bless
Really cool place for drink
