Hairspray

Rating:★★★★★

What a joyful ride through Baltimore!!!

My daughter is in love with this movie, and whenever the song-&-dance sequences begin, she starts to sway along. This is her first musical, and I think the indoctrination shall continue with more classic movie musicals and live shows staged by her theatrical titos and titas, mwehehehehehehe.

If you haven't yet seen this film, get your copy on DVD. I couldn't stop smiling once the opening credits rolled.

Yup,it's a great movie. My 4 year old son never got tired of watching it and he had seen it for more than 20 times.I caught him one time singing along and dancing while watching the movie. It was quite a moment to capture him doing that.

One of the best transfers from stage to screen!

I haven't seen anything on Hairspray yet, so I'm going to take your advice and buy the DVD! (That "mwehehehehehehe" laugh sounds kind of Wicked!)

I think I saw the Broadway show right at the theatre from across where Flower Drum Song was playing in 2002. It was a lot of fun and I even got a pic with Harvey Fierstein. Haven't seen the movie though but it is in my Netflix queue.

It is an excellent movie. I caught it in the theater at about the last possible moment, I think; I may buy it on DVD. I heard "Good Morning Baltimore" at Don't Tell Mama around the Broadway opening of Hairspray and loved it immediately.

And I second the remark about that laugh... have you noticed the Facebook group that says you should be the next Elphaba?

I love you Baltimore!

Too bad they didn't have the song "Mama I'm a big girl now!" in the movie. Amanda who played Penny is absolutley stunning in the last song " You can't stop the beat"

I originally had said that I had seen nothing on "Hairspray", but that wasn't right. I now remember seeing a song done in a Broadway on Broadway (which I think up until 2007 was televised on a New York station shortly after the event), and I think I caught one song on a Tony Awards show. Anyways, I bought the DVD and finished watching it a couple of hours ago. The movie is an absolute blast! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Now I have go out and get the cast recording and/or movie soundtrack, and add it near the top of my list of Broadway shows that I want to see. Thanks for the recommendation!

The song "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now" is there, but it's during the end credits.

hi lea...its great to be able to have access to your posts...you are so cool...i loved hairspray too and was in awe of the amazing cast travolta, michelle pfeifer, latifah, amanda bynes, brittney snow, dreamy zac efron and the so amazingly talented nikki blonsky. she is a total inspiration for chubbies and to have a link fall for her was a blast...your daughter has good taste as early as now.

'Hairspray' was her first musical?!! Moms almost always choose 'Annie' or 'Sound of Music' as their child's first movie musical.

Speaking of child(ren), I'm going to have one of my own probably between tonight and tomorrow which happens to also be my birthday. Can't wait for my son to come out!... which reminds me... I have to put our bags in the car before I rush my wife to Medical City.

hello there! am a fan of yours! :P

this is a very very very cool film! i love Nikki Blonsky! and Zac Efron is wonderful and fabulous as Link Larkin! very very beautiful and gorgeous eyes (hence the cool Link winks!). Brittany snow is perfect as Amber. and the senior actors are great too especially Queen Latifah and Christopher Walken! John T also nailed Edna. by the way what edition do you have? The Shake & Shimmy one or the regular 1-disc DVD?

i cannot actually say where i first watched the film but let's just say that it was before hey put in those Dynamites CGI in the sequence Welcome to the 60s. and that was around January. and let's just say that i haven't watched High School Musical then so that was where i first noticed (and lurved!) Zac Efron. ;) love this movie!! it makes me wanna sing and dance every time!

just an update...i saw in Wikipedia that Nikki is doing her first solo album. can't wait for it!

I like Hairspray!!!!! And John Travolta was so good, I forgot he was a man most of the time. And this is really the first time that what's-his-name (name escapes me) didn't scare me. Most of the time, I look at him and expect to see him with fangs!

Elodie Russo said...

I have seen the movie like... 10 times! And it wasn't out on dvd yet... thanks god, school had offered me a few free movie tickets back in september! lol! I so love Queen Latifah, John Travolta and Amanda Bynes that I couldn't miss it! haha! =) I saw the stage show in London on December... Whoa! AMAZING! Michael Ball was one great Edna. It was quite strange to see him playing a fat and lovely woman, though as for me, he is Marius in Les Mis!!!

yup.. I agree.. This movie is really great. We ( Cradle- performing group of our school) made a presentation on this one and it was really fun. :)
